Sex, I think, is best written about for purposes of ribaldry. D. H. Lawrence would done well to heed his own observation that there was something ridiculous about the rising and falling of the man's buttocks. The erotic does not demand explicit sex. It requires nuance. See A.E. Coppard's "Judith."
